was convicted of quick ago student with autism three years ago. >> a man trusted with their children is accused of violating that trust. an eat bay teacher and performer has been arrested on suspicion of child molestation. sergio quintana has the story from walnut creek. >> he has played a clown and other roles. they charged him with preying on one young victim. they started the investigation in november. >> a female juvenile and the parents reported that and he was sending inappropriate text messages to the young female. a three mo long investigation revealed several crimes. >> he was charged with two misdemeanors and two felonies including child molestation. he was worked as an acting instructor and taught improv

classes. he was fired months ago when they learned he was under investigating. parents were shocked to learn about the charges. >> as a teacher, that is one of the main goals is to trust by children. >> he was a coach here at the cheer academy in south san francisco and he as swim teacher in san bruno. he wasn't worked in either place for years and they have not mentioned to possible crimes in connection on peninsula but they are looking for more information from possible victims. he has posted bail. we found his car parked outside but no one ever answer the door. >> walnut creek police are asking parents to talk with their children if they had contact with him in the last few months. if they have any suspicions,

they should call police. >> new this morning, there is a memorial concert in downtown petaluma tonight to raise money for melissa burn. she attended a concert on new year's eve and was found dead half a mile from the venue. a former classmate is now raising money to buy a memorial bench bearing her name. they have booked seven bay area rappers at the phoenix theater. a portion of the funds raised will be donated to polly klaas foundation to help fund a new buddy program. "abc 7 news" has learned rapper mc hammer was arrested thursday night and booked in in jail in dublin. they are not giving any details about the arrest or pending charges. >> the white house has formally charged into the same-sex marriage debate. the obama administration filed a legal brief with the u.s.

supreme court urging justices to strike down the federal defense of marriage act that defines marriage between a man and a woman. when dan ashley asked president obama about this very issue on wednesday during an exclusive one-on-one interview, the president was non-committal saying he needed to confer with the solicitor general about the proper strategy they should take. supreme court is set to fake up the issue in late march. members of the marching band at john sweat high school is looking for help to find burglars that ripped off the band room this week. several thousands dollars of instruments were stolen between tuesday and wednesday. they are asking for them to be outlook for instruments being on sale on the internet. >> two athletes just returned from at trip of a lifetime. they went to cuba to play

you are looking live view from emeryville back to san francisco blue bay. 47 degrees, going to warm up almost 10 degrees. lisa argen will have the full forecast coming up in just a little bit. popularity of apple iphones and ipads are not limited to people that buy them -- they are big with thieves, too. they are creating a special unit to track down stolen apple products. nearly 4,000 iphones and ipads were stolen in 2012 than the year before. the i-force will work with apple to try on return them to owners. >> some of the best wine is made in the napa valley and it's fetching $600 a bottle. vic lee has more on why local wine lovers won't get a chance to buy them. >> what does this retired n.b.a.

star have in common with a video game maker. they both started their own wineries in napa. yao ming was introduced to red wines at steak houses he frequented while playing for the rockets. >> we have a lot of beef over there. steak and red wine is very really good combo and for people to enjoy their life with those two. >> he is the head of game company. he a long time wine lover and he has been to california on business for some 30 years. >> came to realize that napa produces the best wine in the world. therefore, make me think of starting a winery. >> small winery rests on a former horse ranch. it overlooks the napa valley. he bought the 3800 acre property

13 years ago. he spared no invest investing hundred million dollars to build a state of the art winery and replanted very vineyards and he hired the best people in the business to make his wines. last year, kenzo es states bottled 11,000 cases but wine lovers here probably won't taste them because 80% exports to japan. each bottle selling from $80-250 but there a huge demand for premium wines from japan's middle-class. yao ming started his winery two years ago he leases production space in st. helena. they produce about 4,000 cases of flagship wines and 3500 cases of the yao family reserve cabernet. almost all of shipped to china

tuesday whether to be the largest city in the country to ban styrofoam. they are encouraging a switch to alternative packaging but the california restaurant association a ban would harm small businesses in the city. it says food packaging accounts for 1% of waste in landfill. >> oakland, city officials celebrated the opening of a channel that has been closed off for 140 years. it's part of project that will allow boaters in the oldest wildlife preservation to pad toll san francisco bay. 750 foot section of the channel was open yesterday for the first time since the 18 60s. city will hold a public celebration for this and other lake merritt improvements later this summer. that looks beautiful being out on the lake, something to do today? >> you and i noticed the rain on the pavement earlier this morning. for those just waking up, we had

it hasn't been as cool as it could be if we were clear the entire night. with the cloud cover early this morning, we were milder this afternoon and sunny and breezes kick in. they'll continued throughout the day. with high pressure offshore and builds on in, it will be warmer tomorrow. starting out with sunshine soon weernd are dry throughout the rest of the week. as we begin march, we're talking about -- now looking at a city. temperatures this morning, i spoke of that earlier where with the cloud cover and higher dewpoints, anywhere from five to ten degrees warmer. getting a head start on the warmth. by this afternoon with the high pressure register offshore the winds out of the northwest anywhere from 20-25 miles an hour will keep it brisk. but looking at more sunshine and temperatures staying in the 50s at our coast. here is computer animation.

here a lisa argen. >> another beautifully sunny shot on top of vollmer peak but it doesn't show the clouds out there. much of the bay area waking up to a sunny morning but we do have a weak front that pushed on through. a few lingering clouds in the south bay and along the central coast but temperatures are much milder this morning. upper 40s to low 50s this afternoon. once again it is full sunshine with a cooler day at our coast. 50s remain there and northwest winds blowing already. you may feel the breeze out there this morning. it will stay with us throughout the evening, the evening featuring clear conditions and we are talking about the last week of february. more coming up later. >> katie: new this morning, governors from across the nation are meeting in washington for the annual winter meeting for the national governors' association.

they condemned the stalemate in congress by tha threatens every stated. president obama in his weekly address is urging congressional republicans to approve his blend of targeted savings and tax increases. the so-called sequester will hurt the middle-class. >> republicans in congress really willing to let these cuts fall on our kid schools and mental health care to protect tax loopholes for corporate jet owners? are they ready to slash military health care and border patrol because they want to eliminate tax breaks for big oil companies. are they seriously prepared to inflict more main on the middle-class because they refuse to act any more of the very top. >> katie: republican response calls on him to approve the keystone xl pipeline to grow the economy. >> spending cuts to affect the lives of hundreds of people in the bay area.

if you are not concerned about keeping personal information private, there are very few rules how much information online stores can demand from you when you make a purchase but that is about to change. atlanta in an has the story from sacramento. >> when you buy something with a credit card at a store in california, workers are not allowed to ask you for personal information like home address, phone number or email. it's spelled out in a law. the state supreme court earlier this month sided with apple saying consumer protection do not apply to downloadable products. >> it throws out all privacy protections for people doing

struggling find things to talk about sometimes because our forecast has remained dry. subtle changes and live doppler 7-hd. we had a few areas of light rain earlier. that has since disappeared along the central coast and few clouds lingering around the salinas area. this is a view from mount tam. you have a few areas of raindrops this morning. the pavement was slick and wipers were needed in much of the north bay. we are looking at temperatures 46 this is a sachbtd cruz and low 50s oakland with san jose into the sunshine at 46. livermore 48. here is the view from the south bay, san jose, more sunshine and you picked up a couple hundredths down around santa clara valley and santa cruz mountains. the numbers stay in the 40s here for the short term, the winds continue to gust.

in fact offshore, 40-50 mile-an-hour wind gusts as the northwest winds set the stage for a clearing sky. already we are looking at sunshine the breezy conditions. the warmer day of the weekend will be tomorrow. and extended dry period right through the rest of the week. it takes us to early march. weather systems have been staying up to the north, pacific northwest. you can see another area of low pressure, but it's high pressure that continues to deflect the weather systems to the north. it builds in to the eastern pacific and keeps all of california dry. a few sprinkles up towards eureka and crescent city but cool conditions at our coast, forecast animation shows the cloud cover really eroding throughout the rest of the morning hours. breezy winds to keep us on the cool side around the bay today. we are looking at conditions warmer in southern california

with mid-60s here. should be really nice day but few clouds lingering in the central valley. 74 in palm springs and temperatures back home today, you'll notice a few 50s around and lower 60s with the northwest wind. we'll call it breezy to mostly sunny today. if you have plans to come into town tonight for the chinese new year's parade, it will be clear. numbers will be cool from the mid 50s to lower 50s. then after 7:00 dropping into the upper 40s. cool evening throughout the overnight hours. we're talking about once again without the cloud cover, overnight lows in the mid-30s in the north bay. it should be cold, chilly along the coast. upper 30s and back into the low 40s around the bay. with the look ahead, cooler day today with upper 50s and low 60s. breezy winds around the bay. gaining a few degrees tomorrow, starting out colder and being warmer and then with a few clouds around in the morning, temperatures will finish the
